In 2007, to honour the 100th anniversary of the first sailing of the Rudder Cup, the ORCV broke with a 35 year tradition by redirecting the course for the famous Melbourne to Hobart “Westcoaster” to follow the Melbourne to Launceston course
Arguably one of Australia’s most challenging ocean races, the Melbourne to Hobart West Coaster starts from Portsea Pier on 27th December each year.
This 628 nautical mile course is often described as the most gruelling long ocean race in the world, a challenge to everyone, beginner or pro, who takes part.
The Melbourne to Launceston race is a 198 nm long course and will start on the 27th of December.
